ਤਖ਼ਤ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਦਮਦਮਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ (ਗੁਰੂ ਕੀ ਕਾਂਸ਼ੀ)
Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda, Punjab1706 CE by Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji
Known reverently as “Guru Ki Kashi” (the Guru’s seat of learning), this Takht represents the monumental scholarly and scriptural revitalization of the Sikh Panth.
Sacred History & Panthic Significance
- Following the prolonged battles of Anandpur Sahib and Chamkaur, Tenth Patshah Guru Gobind Singh Ji rested here for nine peaceful months in 1706 CE (“Damdama” meaning breathing space or rest).
- The Guru dictated the entire sacred volume of the Adi Granth entirely from memory to master scribe Bhai Mani Singh Ji, adding the divine hymns of Ninth Patshah Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji.
- Established the Damdami Taksal — the premier seminary for training Gursikh scholars in Gurbani recitation, grammar, exegesis, and spiritual philosophy.
- The Guru blessed this soil with the prophecy that this place would forever flourish as a great university of divine knowledge, inspiring generations of scholars and granthis.
